Animal Training

Coming from a background of positive reinforcement training is so much simpler!

Compared to negative reinforcement systems like Natural Horsemanship & Dominance Reduction, it's just so simple.

And you don't ever, have to mean & nasty to your favourite animal friend ...  we assume this is an upside for you?

The myth that training animals is difficult derives from our traditional reliance on negative reinforcement & punishment - to be effective you needed to eliminate all the behaviours you didn't want, leaving only the one you do.  That's a massive challenge for anyone!

Whereas with positive reinforcement, you teach the reward technique (10 minutes) & then proceed to only reward the behaviours you want.  Wouldn't it be great not to have to use force ever again?  Wouldn't this be so much simpler?

So positive based training focuses on planning how to set it up so your animal does what you want, so you can reward it & encourage repetition.  Rewarding is as simple as 'click & treat' & even better - it's really accurate in terms of identifying the specific behaviour you are selecting for.

It's the shaping of a behaviour that's key: that's really all that training methods are about - shaping.  The easier you can make the path of learning for the animal the quicker the results.  The more consistency within the training system the quicker you can progress to more complex tasks - make the learning easy & motivational & of course the animal will progress quickly.

However there is one more thing you need to consider .... & it's all about how the animal is managed.  All domestic animals are caught in a conflict: the pull of domestication (our needs) & the drive of millions of years of evolution (nature's needs) & they often act in opposite directions.

Our systems include the voyage of discovery that reveals these potential conflicts.  It's a scientific fact that where behavioural needs are unsatisfied you get stress build up.  Where you get accumulated stress you get a proportionate decline in ability to learn.  Does that make sense?

How much does your attention ability drop off when you are stressed !

So what we offer is a balance between maximising your animal's potential for success (managment which gets rid of base line stress) followed by a great shaping plan.  You'll find the tasks within the system build on each other & lay the foundation for all that is to come.  And we promise that it's all positive - you don't need to use any negative reinforcement ... if you set it up correctly & apply a sound shaping plan.

Here's a peek inside the programme ... you'll see from the tasks shown - it's so simple - you don't need DVD's & reams of explanations!  And if you still have queries then call us & we'll talk you through it.
